Sandy beaches and coastal scenery: There are the beautiful
wide sandy beaches of family resorts like Calpe and the narrow
streets and Spanish architecture in the older parts of towns such
as Villajoyosa.
The coast from Calpe to Moraira is famous for it's beautiful
pine forest. There are lots of sandy and rocky coves to visit
and coastal walks with picnic areas, if you like to get away from
the main resort beaches.
Restaurants and bars: The coastal road also has a wide
choice of restaurants and bars. There are the traditional Spanish
Tapas bars and also restaurants serving Italian, Chinese, Indian
and English cuisine. Whatever your taste from English 'Fish and
Chips' to Italian Pizzas, there's plenty of variety! Inland there
are also wonderful restaurants and bars to discover as you drive
along the country roads. A popular tourist destination is the
stunning Guadalest.
Guadalest: This is one of the most spectacular locations
of any village in Spain, high up on a rocky pinnacle, carved out
of a mountain top in the midst of truly stunning scenery. One
of its most famous landmarks is the Peñon de La Alcalá
tower rising high above the village to watch over the valley below.
It has a small resident population and visitors receive a warm
welcome. The castle village is a delight, reached through a tunnel,
it has many little craft and souvenir shops, several cafés
and museums. If you take a tour around the inside of the castle
and the ramparts you will be rewarded with some simply breathtaking
views of the surrounding valley and down to the Bay of Altea.
One of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain, Guadalest
has been declared a 'Monument of Historical and Artistic Value'
and is a must for any sightseeing visitors to the Costa Blanca.
From Altea you follow the winding road ever higher past the picturesque
village of Polop, before emerging finally high up over Guadalest.
Of Islamic origin, Guadalest was a military stronghold
of great strategic importance and is the site of several
ancient castles, the remains of which can still be seen today.
Shops, entertainment, nightclubs: In the other direction
is Alicante and Benidorm. The city of Alicante has airport and
port facilities, excellent shops and entertainment. Benidorm is
famous for it's clubs, nightlife, live music, dancing and shows,
as well as it's attractive sea front and sandy beaches.
Spanish Fiestas: There is fun for everyone if you are
on holiday when there is a Spanish fiesta, they are great entertainment
with firework displays, Spanish music, dance and traditional dress.
Sports: There is breathtaking scenery and natural habitat
to be found in areas such as Sella National Park, popular with
rock climbers, walkers and mountain bikers.
Activities: The activities enjoyed by visitors in the
cooler months include golf, horseriding, walking, rock climbing
and mountain biking. In the heat of summer, water sports, sailing,
diving and swimming are the favourite pastimes.
Golf: The glorious weather plus fabulous views of the
countryside makes golfing holidays in Costa Blanca very popular.
For golfers who visit Costa Blanca, there are excellent clubs
and facilities, many fine golf courses on which to play whilst
on holiday.
